Liechti History

Switzerland-based LIECHTI, headquartered in Langnau im Emmental, celebrates its 161st anniversary in 2026, representing more than 160 years of continuous innovation and engineering excellence.

Founded in 1865 as a manufacturer of agricultural equipment, LIECHTI has transformed into a globally recognized leader in advanced airfoil machining solutions for the aerospace and power generation industries. Today, as part of United Machining Solutions, LIECHTI continues to expand its technological leadership and global presence.

With around 120 employees worldwide, LIECHTI continues to lead in high-performance airfoil machining. As part of United Machining Solutions, the company acts as a full-solution provider, supporting customers from initial evaluation through to start-up and serial production.

Its advanced machining technologies and specialised CAM software deliver productivity improvements of over 30%, significantly reducing machining times and creating measurable value for customers worldwide.

In 2025, LIECHTI was sold by GF Machining Solutions and acquired by the United Grinding Group. As a result, LIECHTI now operates within the United Machining Solutions segment, continuing its mission as a global leader in high-performance airfoil machining while leveraging synergies across the group.

The first Turbomill is introduced—an advanced 5-axis milling machining centre tailored for medium-sized turbine components, setting new standards in precision and efficiency.

Turbosoft

LIECHTI develops and launches its proprietary CAM system, Turbosoft Plus, designed specifically for 5-axis airfoil machining. This innovation lays the groundwork for integrated software-machine solutions.

Multimill

The company begins specialising in single- and multi-spindle milling machines for high-speed machining of complex curved surfaces, including turbine blades and impellers—marking its entry into high-precision industries.

In the 1950s, LIECHTI expanded its portfolio to include butchery solutions, such as meat grinders and refrigerated display units used primarily by local butcher shops. This business contributed to the company’s diversification and post‑war growth. Eventually, LIECHTI sold this division to focus entirely on the development and production of airfoil machining solutions, which would become its core area of expertise.

By the beginning of the 20th century, LIECHTI had expanded into the production of conventional machine tools, including lathes and milling machines, manufactured in Langnau. These machines served general industrial needs and helped build the company’s precision expertise in machined components—expertise that would later form the foundation for its advanced airfoil machining technologies.
